Five Crazy Cat Facts

Five Crazy Cat Facts

We all know that cats are amazing creatures, but did you know these five fun facts about your feline friend?

One. Their Purring Can Heal Bones.
This sounds like it's taken right from a crazy cat lady's fantasy novel, but it is true! A The exact science isn't clear (but I'd volunteer as a study participant, wouldn't you?) but many people believe the
frequency of a cat's purring (between 25 and 150 Hertz) can promote healing in bones and tissues. It’s believed that purring helps to reduce stress and may even strengthen bones in both cats and humans.

Two. Cats Can Rotate Their Ears 180 degrees.
Cats have 32 muscles in each of their ears, allowing them to rotate them a full 180 degrees! Just like an owl's amazing ability to turn its head, this allows cats to be amazing predators and track their prey.

P.S Did you know that humans have muscles in their ears, too, but we've forgotten how to use them!

Three. They “Knead” for Comfort.
When cats knead you, or the bed, with their paws, it’s not just because they’re feeling affectionate (though that’s part of it). This behaviour originates from kittenhood, when they kneaded their mother’s belly to stimulate milk flow. As adult cats, they continue the behaviour because it makes them feel safe and comforted.

Four. A Cat Can Jump 5 Times Its Own Height.
Kangaroos are impressive jumpers, but cats beat them at a competition of high jump.
Cats are powerful jumpers, capable of leaping up to 5 times their own body height! Their strong back legs provide incredible power, making them experts at climbing trees, reaching high shelves, or even leaping over obstacles with ease. If you've ever seen your cat in a hard-to-reach place, just know they probably leapt there!

Five. Cats Have a “Third Eyelid”.
Cats have a unique third eyelid called the "haw." It’s a thin membrane that moves across their eyes when they’re sick, sleeping, or in a relaxed state. It helps keep their eyes moist and protected and is especially noticeable in certain light conditions. Creepy!

So, usually we love to educate and inspire you in these blogs, keep you up to date on pet nutrition and teach you important skills/ habits. The blog this fortnight is just for fun, and keep your eyes (including your third eyelid!) open for a doggy version coming soon!
