Five Foods to Keep Your pet Hydrated in the Heat

Summer is just over a month away and we're already feeling the highs of Australian summer. What will come across December, we don't even know yet! When the weather gets hot, nothing is more important than staying cool and hydrated. Us humans can keep drinking cold water, flavoured sparkling water, a good cold beer — but we aren't the only ones impacted by the heat. Our furbabies struggle through the heat essentially wearing a fur coat! While a bowl of fresh water should always be on offer, sometimes it's not enough to encourage your pet to drink as much as they should. It's even more important if you have a working or performance dog that they are well hydrated with fresh water and hydrating foods. are also

Here are five hydrating foods that can help keep your furry friend cool, nourished, and full of energy all summer long.

One. Cucumber.

Crisp, cool, and over 95% water, cucumber is the ultimate summer snack. It’s low in calories and high in hydration, making it perfect for dogs and cats alike. Slice it into small pieces, add it to their water or top their meals for a refreshing boost and a nice crunch.

Two. Watermelon.

There's a reason humans LOVE watermelon in the summer: it's hydrating, delicious, and sweet, like a treat that you don't have to feel guilty about. This is a great occassional treat for your pet. Try blending a small cube of watermelon into a frozen treat or serve it fresh in small-ish cubes.

Three. Bone Broth.

Bone broth is a hydration hero — it adds moisture and minerals while encouraging even picky eaters to lap up more fluids. Whether poured over their raw food, mixed into their water or served chilled as a mid-day drink, it supports joint health, digestion, and recovery after play.

Look for an additive-free broth made from slow-simmered, pasture-raised bones. No onions or garlic necessary!

Four. Raw Zucchini.

Zucchini is light, easy to digest, and loaded with water and fibre. It’s a gentle veggie that can be finely grated into raw meals or lightly pureed for smaller pets.

Five. Coconut Water.

Coconut water is naturally rich in electrolytes like potassium and magnesium, making it a great occasional summer hydration treat. Serve a few spoonfuls mixed into their water or mix it into ice cubes for a fun way to cool down. You can also build a pupsicle with cucumber and cocnut water for them to enjoy.

A hydrated pet is a happy, healthy pet — ready for all the summer adventures ahead! These five foods, along with their expertly formulated Pawganics Pet Food, will suffice to keep them well-hydrated and happy as the summer comes.
